How to Add Assets to MyGeotab (Single & Bulk)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for adding a single GO device or bulk-uploading multiple assets while ensuring they are assigned to the correct Groups and Asset Types.

1. Getting Started

Log in to MyGeotab.
Navigate to Assets in the top left menu.
Click the [+] button in the upper right corner and choose your method:
- Single Asset: Manual entry for one device.
- Multiple Assets: Bulk upload using a CSV/Excel template.

2. Option A: Adding a Single Asset

Select Single Asset.
Asset Name: Enter the unit name (e.g., 09-20).
Serial Number: Enter the 12-character ID from the device.
Asset Type: Select the category (e.g., Vehicle, Equipment, Trailer) from the dropdown. This ensures the correct icon appears on the map.
Groups: Click in the box to select which fleet or department this vehicle belongs to. You can select multiple groups if needed.
Click Save in the top right corner.

3. Option B: Bulk Upload & Template Instructions

Use this for large deployments to ensure all settings (Groups/Types) are applied at once.

Select Multiple Assets and click the link to download the import template.
Fill out the template using the specific formatting below:

How to Fill the Template Columns:

Column	Instructions
Asset Name	Enter the unit ID. Format cell as 'Text' to prevent "09-20" from becoming a date. "Mandatory"
Serial Number	Enter the 12-digit GO device serial number. "Optional"
Asset Type	Enter the exact name of the Asset Type (e.g., Vehicle, Equipment, Trailer). It must match your system settings. "Mandatory"
Groups	Enter the name of the Group. (e.g., Parks ) "Optional"

4. Finalizing the Upload

Once your template is filled, drag it into the Upload box in MyGeotab.
The system will "Validate" the data.
- Green: Ready to import.
- Red: There is an error (usually a misspelled Group name or a duplicate Serial Number).
Click Finish to add all assets to your database.
