Q: Can I connect the tach lead directly to the spark
plug wire or directly to the magneto's wires?
A: No. This can cause incorrect tach readings, could
damage the meter and can possibly cause harm to the
user.
Q: What's the best way to install my tach lead?
A: The tach lead is typically installed by wrapping
the lead around the plug wire three times and securing
with a zip-tie.
Q: Why is my tach value jumping around?
A: You may have a strong ignition and it may be overpowering
our receiver. You may want to try wrapping a piece of
fuel line around the spark plug wire
before wrapping the tach lead around it. You can also
try reducing the number of wraps on the wire to 1 or
2.
Q: Why is my RPM reading lower than it should be?
A: If you believe that your tach is reading low, you
may have a weak ignition
source or the tach signal is being absorbed by ferrous
metal surfaces (ex. steel). Try adding additional wraps
around the plug wire or routing the tach lead away from
ferrous metal surfaces. You may also want to try running
the entire length of the tach lead inside a fuel line
to prevent contact with metal surfaces.
Q: Does the Race Pro 3 work with transponder timing
systems?
A: No, The RP3 only supports beacon (IR) and magnetic
strip timing systems.
Q: Why is there no data in 'best' or 'session' mode
after I complete my session?
A: In order for the RP3 to save data, the engine must
be running with the tachometer being shown, the lap
time must start counting after passing a
timing source (IR or mag strip) and at least one lap
must have been completed. When the data is being recorded
the 'REC' icon will appear on the display. Make sure
your RP3 is set to the proper timing input source; beacon
('bEAC') or magnetic strip ('StrP').
